BILLY'S BEST IN THE WEST
**********************
Th Jun 30 – 2:00 pm (USA)/18:00 GMT
Fr Jul 1 – 4:00 pm (USA)/20:00 GMT
Sa Jul 2 – 3:00 pm (USA)/19:00 GMT
Su Jul 3 – 3:00 pm (USA)/19:00 GMT
For this week's US Tour event, the Cialis Western Open, there's been plenty of interest in Billy Mayfair at our best price of 66/1, and it's not difficult to see why. He won here in 1995, has five top-10 finishes this year (a big improvement on last year), and shot a closing 5-under par 66 in last week's Barclays Classic. He does tend to have one bad round per tournament but, at the price, he's worth a bet this week. Also worth an interest is Aussie Mark Hensby at 40/1, who might be ready to win again after his fine performance in the US Open (tied for third). As a 'fledgling' pro, Hensby spent several weeks sleeping in his car next to the course at Cog Hill, and this is an event he would dearly love to win (third here last year). Other players fancied to play well this week are Jim Furyk (10/1) and Scott Verplank (25/1). Both have excellent form on the course, but are too short in the betting considering they rarely seem to win these days. A better bet could be on favorite Tiger Woods (10/3, could be bigger in-play!), whose course form is second to none (winner in 1997, 1999 and 2003).

Western Open Picks: Billy Mayfair 66/1, Mark Hensby 40/1, Tiger Woods @ 10/3 (Each-way Ό odds 1.2.3.4.5).

JOHNSON CAN BE A SATURDAY NIGHT SPECIAL
**************************************
Sa Jul 2 – 7:00 pm (NBC)/23:00 GMT
The dash to the chase begins this Saturday under the lights of Daytona, with just ten races left for Cup drivers to put themselves in the running for the Championship (top ten drivers in points qualify, and all others within 400 points). If the chase were to begin this week there would be some surprise omissions, including Jeff Gordon (7/2) and Dale Earnhardt Jr. (5/1), but that could all change this week. Gordon and Junior are both going back to a track where they have the confidence to win. They, along with Michael Waltrip (15/2) have dominated the restrictor plate races over the years. Most recently, Gordon has been the king, with wins in four of the last five plate races (including Talladega) and, despite his recent troubles, is a worthy favourite to win this week. Barring mechanical failure last week, he'd be coming in this week fresh from a victory.

That race was won by Tony Stewart (8/1), who is yet to win here, but he could easily break his Daytona duck this week judging on the way he's performing recently. However, this week's bet will be going on another driver who's yet to win here – Jimmie Johnson (6/1). Johnson lost his overall point lead last week (to Greg Biffle) and will be looking to get it back. In his last 5 Daytona starts, he has two fifths, a second, and a third place finish, and he should have learned enough by now from his team-mate (and boss), Jeff Gordon, to know how to win. For a long shot this week, I like the look of Dale Jarrett (25/1). He's had four wins here (as recently as 2000) and four poles, and could be a good bet for the place money at least.

Nigel's Checkered Flag: Jimmie Johnson @ 6/1; Dale Jarrett @ 25/1 (each-way)

CALGARY CAN OPEN IN STYLE
************************
Fr Jul 1 – 9:00 pm (TSN)/Jul 2 – 01:00 GMT
The Calgary Stampeders will kick-off their CFL 2005 regular season on Friday, July 1st (Canada Day) at home to the defending Grey Cup Champion Toronto Argonauts. The Argos did not play well in Week 1, losing 20-27 to the Lions (wide receiver Arland Bruce dropped a potential game-tying touchdown in the final minute), so the pick has to be Calgary in receipt of three points. In Friday's other game, the Saskatchewan Roughriders take on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. After their demolition of Winnipeg (42-15), we make the Roughriders 3.5-point favourites, however, Winnipeg were simply awful last week, and the Tiger-Cats defence will provide a much sterner test.

Week 2 Picks: Calgary (+3.0), Hamilton (+3.5) - both teams at 10/11.

FEDERER TO GIVE IT OUT STRIAGHT
****************************
Semi-Finals
Fr Jul 1 – 8:00 am (ESPN2)/04:00 GMT
A repeat of last year's Wimbledon final showdown is very much on the cards, with both Andy Roddick (1/5) and Roger Federer (1/8) both long odds on chances to win their semi-final matches. The 2004 decider was a good match, and one in which Roddick gave Federer his toughest test in two years. He might well have won had it not been for the rain delays (part and parcel of SW19) which certainly aided Federer on the day. However, there's no getting away form the fact that Federer has regularly beaten his rival over the years (8-1 on the head to heads, with six of those wins coming in straight sets). Roddick may have won at Queens again this year, but Federer looks nailed on for victory on his favourite surface. Federer to win 3-0. On the day, we'll have live 9 In-Play betting markets!
